Maintaining the integrity of this Mid Century Modern home was an important part of the design process for this kitchen remodel. Our goal was to enhance the home’s signature clean lines while improving functionality, flow, and storage.

Smart Layout Changes

• Removed the peninsula by combining the oven and cooktop into a high-end range

• Moved the refrigerator to the end of the cabinet run, opening up countertop prep space

• Created a dedicated undercabinet space for the microwave

• Replaced the cantilevered table with a full wall of base cabinets and drawer stacks

Mid Century-Friendly Materials

• Slab-front cabinet doors and drawer fronts in Rift White Oak

• Honed Black Milky Way granite countertops with a matte finish

• Terrazzo-look ceramic tile flooring in a large 12×24 format

The Plan

• Taking down a wall to open up the kitchen to living room,
• Removing a pantry closet,
• Shifting the entry doorway to the kitchen to allow the long wall of cabinetry as well as more logically flow from the entryway to the home
• Removing the peninsula and relocating sink to new half wall
• Maximizing space for a coffee center as well as second oven
