For this large family, a large island for gathering around in the kitchen is a must. And for a transitional style that still keeps with the bones of this 1940's home, a ship-lap wall accent, backsplash in an updated version of a subway tile, walnut butcher block counter tops and both white painted cabinets and a very on point Naval Blue painted cabinets make the end result a very classic, slightly farmhouse kitchen.
By definition, this project was considered a kitchen update (most cabinets, appliances and utilities stay in place) as compared to a full kitchen remodel (all cabinets are removed, often layout changes some, etc.). The transformation however, looks like a major kitchen renovation has taken place. Existing perimeter cabinets are painted , both base and uppers while the island is all new. All new island is made of frameless EVO Cabinets by Showplace Cabinetry.
